Distributed, flexible, and now, global teams are the future, and they’re certainly the answer to creating business resiliency in times of crisis.
Pre COVID, one of our business models offered a full-time talent partner onsite in a client’s office, working alongside the team for rapid hiring growth. In light of COVID, we have pivoted this model to the Virtual Talent Partner (VTP), essentially offering all of the same services, “virtually”. The VTP is a network of talent partners (mainly ex Heads of Talent) who are available to work remotely with high growth start-ups and scale teams.
Rebecca DiMassa is a Senior Talent Partner at Kandidate and has worked onsite with clients such as Cleo, Zego, and Yelp. Her first virtual talent partner experience has been with SPG Law and, although it has been a fairly easy transition, she has a few tips for optimal productivity while being full time remote:
- Communication! Being proactive with hiring managers is even more essential whilst remote. Creating recruiting WhatsApp groups has helped with quick feedback and momentum.
- Establish trust and process early on: Zoom meetings with the hiring team in week 1 for visual connection in creating a productive working relationship.
- Bi-weekly recruiting catch-ups to set clear hiring targets, ensure we are on track with goals, and are addressing any challenges.
Virtual recruiting is cost-effective and extremely efficient, a model that is proving beneficial and delivering results. Prior to Covid-19 we were already exploring ways to expand remote working and virtual recruiting, however current circumstances have allowed us to excel in this model and put it into immediate action! Not only are we supporting our clients remotely, we are also seeing a shift in business owner’s confidence to hire on a pure remote basis (sans in-person interviews etc).
Hiring remotely allows you to access top talent without the worry and restriction of candidate location, the potential long commute etc. Companies can now build world-class teams through a much larger talent pool, which we believe is the shift of future success.
Collaborating from afar means investing in good tech and there has never been a time when we have had such great technology at our fingertips. Tools such as Zoom, Slack, Workable, Monday.com etc are allowing teams to thrive by embracing video interviews and seamless communication. If there is one thing the past few months have proved, it is that companies can run their business just as successfully (if not more!), from any location.
